Do you sometimes feel over-extended and not honoring yourself enough?
I love metaphors.
And I love tea.
One metaphor I enjoy is about a teacup.
It goes something like this: The teacup needs to be full first before it has some to spill.
I coach with high achievers. Often times,
- They are so focused on the next big challenge that they forget to take the time to celebrate their successes;
- They tend to think about what they could or should have done better vs. what they have done very well;
- They are so ambitious that they over-commit and sometimes deplete themselves;
- They have such high standards for themselves that they experience relentless self-criticism, conscious or sub-conscious...
Does any of these ring a bell to you?
What if you were the teacup?
What if only when your teacup is full then you can spill some - in what you can do for others, for your organization, for the society, and for the world?
So, fill your own teacup first. If you ultimately want to spill some.
