We carry our beliefs around, hoping our behaviors reflect them.
A former colleague yelled out my name across the restaurant - “Yan”! He said I was one of the leaders he models after. I was curious and took the courage to ask what specifically.
He said:
“1. You always cared about your people.
2. You were not content with the status quo. You always did what is right.
3. You owned your mistakes.
That’s why I trust you.”
I allowed his words to land inside my body. It felt incredibly validating, true and authentic.
Appreciating his reflections, I thanked him, “If that’s what resonated with you, that is who YOU ARE!” A breeze of surprise, appreciation, and confidence kissed through his face.
I wished him well, full of trust in what he will create in this world.
I am inspired to believe, and to carry my beliefs around every day.
