The sun was warm, the breeze was gentle, the birds were chirping, and the floral aromas were tangalizing.
I was at the local botanical garden with an executive client for an experiential coaching intensive.
Immersed in this inspiring setting, my client was taking away numerous insights that translate to his work and personal life - from the plants, the rocks, the waterfall, and the curation of it all that makes up a garden.
But his final insight is what resonated with me the most.
He said, "Being a gardener is both doing the work and enjoying the garden."
His reflection as a President was that he tends to be always looking ahead at what still needs be done. Yet, he realized that it's a smart idea to pause, celebrate, and enjoy the progress with his team members.
Taking a pause to review progress helps us learn, adapt quickly, and execute more effectively.
Making a point to celebrate with the team builds team morale, collective energy, and go-forward momentum.
Just like an individual human, a team is an organic entity; it has life. Being a gardener AND enjoying the garden makes the team sustainable.
